Blending post-punk grit with boogie swagger, Tears of the Fatman deliver danceable chaos with sharp self-awareness and zero compromises

Tears of the Fatman have taken the leap from rehearsal rooms in Katrineholm to stages across Europe with their self-coined sound: Dysfunctional Disco — an explosive blend of post-punk, rock’n’roll and boogie. The result? Sweaty dance floors, sharp self-aware lyrics, and a chaotic energy that refuses to be polished.

What began as home recordings and garage jams has evolved into a tightly bonded, uncompromising band where each member instinctively knows the other’s next move. That closeness isn’t just musical — it’s the core of the band. Their friendship fuels the chemistry, and the chemistry fuels everything else.

Their debut album Hits for Fat Kids (2023) was praised for its originality and genre-defying attitude. The music was described as both nostalgic and forward-thinking, delivered with a distinctly personal voice.

Last autumn they released “God Damn,” the first single from their upcoming EP Dysfunctional Disco, followed by “Jiu-jitsu Soarée” on December 12. Both tracks were developed in collaboration with Joel Kiviaho of Boko Yout, adding new layers to the band’s already unpredictable sound.

Fresh off a Norwegian tour — which kicked off at Banankompaniet as support for Turbonegro — Tears of the Fatman continue to build their reputation as a formidable live act. Their shows are defined by intensity, self-irony and danceable chaos.

“Tears of the Fatman is probably the best and worst thing we’ve ever done — at the same time.”
Robin Karlsson, guitarist and songwriter
